@dan_patterson: I think the Conversion University course is good to help people understand how it all works http://bit.ly/Nq84BK . Other than that, the best way to learn analytics is to get down and dirty with it. Come up with questions and find the answer. IMO it’s the only way to really learn your way around and figure out what reports do what, when to use Custom Reports, etc.
@shuey03: Even though his posts are long and sometimes hard to follow, i read @avinash’s blog religiously
@ashbuckles: Google’s answer: http://bit.ly/MCIHSh, http://bit.ly/Nq84S0, http://bit.ly/Nq858A, http://bit.ly/Nq884t . I like to think that analytics are the lagging action necessary to prove success/failure of a campaign. There’s so much data, many professionals get lost in what may be important.
@ashbuckles: Tracking company/campaign goals/actions are a top priority. Also, segmenting data by audience/referral/country/language/etc. is critical.
@davidmalmborg: Working with a b2b service compnay, their main goals were comparing non-branded organic, vs branded keyword organic traffic. Our goal was to increase non-branded at a higher rate than overall organic traffic.
@scott_dodge: How do you guys determine branded / non-branded on an international level?
@dan_patterson: Run a Demographics > Location report. Add secondary dimension of Keyword and filter away. You could also do it the other way around. Run a KW report, then do sec. dimension of Country and filter it down.
@scott_dodge: One of my favorite metrics is determining your most valuable screen resolutions.
@dan_patterson: One other thing I’ll throw out about GA. IMO if you really want to get dirty with GA you HAVE to learn basic Regex.
@jcolman: DistilledU at http://www.distilled.net/u/ , @SEOmoz guide at http://mz.cm/MCR1BG are great resources.
@AnnieCushing: I have a bundle of analytics blogs I read almost daily: http://bit.ly/GY53W2. I also created a CSE to search @avinash and Nick’s podcast: http://bit.ly/OObLSI . It searches only episodes of Web Analytics TV. And each page has minute markers listed.
